Season 2 Prologue

0:05 Welcome back to the Leadership Passport. I'm Kevin Forbrook, and I'm so glad you're here with me as we launch into Season 2 of the podcast. When I set out with Season 1, I wanted to shine a light on what it really means to lead inside schools, the challenges, opportunities, innovations, and the human side of leadership. We spoke with incredible guests who each gave us something powerful to reflect on. You and Macintosh reminded us of the power of curiosity, how asking better questions can open up possibilities we might have never considered. Gavin McCormick spoke with such passion about nurturing creativity and compassion and students, and how education must always be rooted in kindness. Luca Perry encouraged us to rethink education itself. He pushed us to see schools not just as places of instruction, but as ecosystems for future ready whole human beings. And Lord Jim Knight grounded us in policy and big picture thinking, but also reminded us that at the heart of it all, education is about equity and opportunity. One of the fun threads of Season 1 was hearing the books the guests recommended.

1:14 Ewan highlighted A More Beautiful Question by Warren Burger, a powerful reminder of how transformative curiosity can be for leaders and learners alike. Luca pointed us to The Future of Learning by Valerie Hannon, a book that challenges us to think differently about what education is for. And Gavin's pick, The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, reminded us that kindness, compassion, and even laughter are vital tools in the work of education. Together, these titles weren't just book recommendations, they're a window into the mindset of leaders who see themselves as lifelong learners. We also dug into how leaders sustain themselves. Some spoke about daily exercise, others about journaling, meditation, or simply making space for family, community, and connection. And the clear message was this.

2:04 If we're going to lead well, we have to look after ourselves as humans first. Which brings us to this new season. If Season 1 was about the work inside schools, Season 2 steps just a little further out. We'll be asking questions like, how do we develop young people not just to achieve academically, but to become good humans? What roles of social, emotional learning and well-being play in that journey? And how does diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging shape the kind of communities we want our schools to be and to be a part of? And how can social enterprises and change makers outside the classroom influence the way we educate for the future? So this season, you'll hear from, yes, school leaders, but also from social entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and advocates who are redefining what it means to prepare young people for a complex and interconnected world. These conversations are about character, compassion, and community as much as they are about curriculum. So whether you're an educator, a parent, or a social entrepreneur, simply someone who believes in the power of education to change lives, I hope Season 2 captures your imagination.
